Which One is More Popular-Facebook or WhatsApp?

It was back in 2015 when Facebook acquired WhatsApp in a jaw-dropping deal that worth $19 billion.

The deal started paying heavy dividends following its acquisition by FB because of the monumental growth it has recorded in the span of last 4 years. What came as a surprise to many is that it is on the verge of defeating its parent company in terms of growth and usage.

The research firm App Annie has recently published a report stating that WhatsApp has already overtaken the popularity of Facebook, the largest social media platform, as it claims to be.

The figures are highly reliant on the growth of mobile usage in the past few years which played an upper hand in elevating the popularity of WhatsApp.
Here are the details.

App Annie, a leading app-analytics organization, publishes a report annually by the name ‘State of Mobile’. The statistical data extracted from the reports clearly state that WhatsApp has been ranked ahead of Facebook in terms of monthly active users.
For the first time in history, the messaging platform surpassed Facebook’s own mobile app and since then it had maintained a lead over its parent company in terms of the total count. However, the report failed to present a specific figure that reports the present gap between the numbers of the two apps.

WhatsApp Marches Past Facebook

The recent report also suggested that WhatsApp even defeated Facebook in India and other markets. WhatsApp has recently witnessed a surging growth of over 30% in the last couple of years. It seemingly crossed Facebook with respect to the average number of monthly active users. The markets studies while preparing this report are India, Switzerland, Spain, Singapore, Russia, and the Netherlands.

Instagram Leads The Pack

While WhatsApp has grown over 30% in the last two years, it failed to match up to the growth of another social media platform called Instagram, the online photo sharing platform that is owned by Facebook. The reports mentioned that Instagram has recorded a staggering growth of 35% during the same period, making it the best growing social media platform.

Facebook Still The Most Popular Globally

In Global terms, Facebook still maintained the lead as it sits on the top with the highest number of active users. It is notable to mention that the app has a bolstered presence across the globe, making it the most used social media platform. While we need more details about the surging popularity and growth of WhatsApp and Instagram, Facebook is strengthening its stronghold in the global ecosphere despite being impaired with multiple policy regulations.

Wrapping Up!

Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of Facebook, has highlighted an impressive figure at the end of Q3 2018. He pitched a figure of 2.6 billion monthly active users on Facebook, WhatsApp, Instagram, or Messenger. The latest report published only justifies the figure previously asserted by the Facebook CEO.
