Women’s contraceptive products maker Pregna International raises Rs 130 crore from India Life Sciences Fund

Women’s contraceptive products maker Pregna International Ltd has raised its first private equity funding of $16 million or Rs130 crore from India Life Sciences Fund III (ILSF III) for a minority stake, the company said in a press statement.

Founded in the 1990s by Late Shyamsunder Taparia, Jaiprakash Taparia and family, Pregna is a contraception devices maker in the global IUD (intrauterine devices) space with a growing portfolio of reproductive and women’s health products. Pregna has a presence in over 140 countries and is the largest IUD manufacturer in the world. The company is led by Mukul Taparia.

“Pregna has developed strong capabilities in new product development, Class III Medical Devices manufacturing, long-term drug delivery applications, and global market reach. Together with ILSF III, we intend to strengthen and leverage these capabilities and provide access to high-quality innovative reproductive health products to women worldwide,” said Mukul Taparia, Managing Director of Pregna.

India Life Sciences Fund is a family of funds that have so far raised $500 million from global investors since 2007. InvAscent is the investment advisor to the India Life Sciences Funds. The funds have deployed capital in over 30 companies across pharma, healthcare delivery, medical devices, and animal health sectors.
