Now you can bid goodbye to WhatsApp calls from an unknown number.

The Meta-owned chat app has introduced a new feature that will enable users to block calls from unknown numbers automatically.

Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced the feature in an official blog post and wrote, “You can now automatically silence incoming calls from unknown contacts on WhatsApp for even more privacy and control.”

Users can now avail of this feature by going to Settings>Privacy>Calls and clicking the block silent unknown caller option. Whenever you get a random call, the number will be displayed to you along with the message that the call has been silenced.

However, while calls from unknown numbers will be blocked, these will still be visible in the notifications and the app’s call list. You will be able to take a call on whether you want to contact any of these random callers.

WhatsApp users will also be able to customise their privacy settings. There will be options such as choosing who can contact you, making your chats private through the chat lock feature, controlling your personal information, etc. Users can also determine who can add them to groups, set a default timer for disappearing messages, and control their online visibility. Moreover, you can safeguard your messages and images against unauthorised screenshots with the ‘View Once’ feature. People will be able to see your messages only once. The messaging app doubled down on enhancing privacy and security after 500 million users in India complained that they were getting random calls from international numbers. According to a press statement, many users were being bombarded with fraudulent job offers from countries such as Ethiopia (+251), Indonesia (+62), Kenya (+254), Malaysia (+60), Vietnam (+84), etc. Moreover, users were also disturbed by calls and messages from random brands who spammed them with messages and calls even after being blocked.
