London-based consumer electronic brand Nothing is all set to take its iconic transparent design a notch higher.

Known for its unique designs, Nothing founder Carl Pei teased its new and improved charging cable with a semi-transparent design.

While the table will continue to be white, the Type-C USB plugs on either end will feature a semi-transparent plastic look with the ‘Nothing’ logo etched on the visible metal. The USB tips also feature six circles but their purpose is not known. Some believe the USB plugs may come with LED lights.

The Nothing boss also was proud to announce that the new Type-C USB cable was “nice.”
When a user asked why it was 69 cm long, Pei quipped, “For the memes.”
Earlier this month, the smart device-maker announced the launch dates of Nothing Phone (2). The upcoming flagship smartphone is scheduled to be launched next month.

According to the company, the second-generation Nothing smartphone will be powered by a Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chipset which features an 18-bit Image Signal Processor (ISP) capable of capturing over 4,000 times more camera data than the ISP used on the Phone (1).
The tech company will make the smartphones at Chinese manufacturing company BYD’s Tamil Nadu facility. “Phone (2) is going to be manufactured in India – Tamil Nadu. The phones manufactured in India will be for consumption in India,” Nothing India VP and GM Manu Sharma said in a statement.

The company started making its smartphones in India last year with the first version of the Phone (1). “It is very important for us to be accessible to the Indian market, to build the demand and manage supplies. We wanted to be close to the market. Our Phone (1) has been very successful in India and globally as well. Our demand is such that large volumes are manufactured right here in India,” Sharma added.

Sharma also said that the company will use recycled material in the Phone (2). “We will use 100 per cent recycled copper, steel, tin etc, and the 80 per cent of plastic used in the Phone (2),” he said.

In a detailed thread, the official Twitter handle of Nothing shared the significant step taken to make the smartphone industry more sustainable. “Phone (2) is the first time we’ve achieved a lower carbon footprint on a second-generation product,” the post began.

The Phone (2) leaves behind a carbon footprint of 53.45kg, over 5 kg less than its predecessor. The new smartphone will have a 200 mAh increase in battery capacity and a 0.15-inch bigger screen than the Phone (1).

Phone (2) has 3x more recycled or bio-based parts compared to Phone (1). The frame will be made with 100 per cent recycled aluminium. “100% recycled tin on 9 circuit boards, 100% recycled copper foil on the main circuit board & over 90% recycled steel on all 28 steel stamping parts. With 80% of plastic parts being sustainably sourced,” the tweet read.

The unboxing of Phone (2) will also be a plastic-free experience.
