A week after Hindustani Awam Morcha (HAM) quit the Grand Alliance in Bihar, party leader Jitan Ram Manjhi announced that his party has joined the NDA. Jitan Manjhi and his son Santosh Suman Manjhi were in Delhi on Wednesday to meet Union home minister Amit Shah.

Santosh Suman had resigned from Nitish Kumar‘s cabinet on June 13 and his party was out of the Grand Alliance in Bihar.

The Manjhi duo met Shah for almost an hour to seal the alliance deal. Union minister of state and Bihar BJP leader Nityanand Rai was also present during the meeting.

“It was a cordial meeting. We decided to work together for the betterment of Bihar and the country. Principally, we agreed to be part of the NDA and will contest the upcoming Lok Sabha and assembly elections together in alliance,” Santosh Manjhi told ET.

Manjhi said that a final announcement would be made in Patna along with state leaders of both the parties. His party HAM has four MLAs and an MLC at present.

“The decision on seat-sharing will be taken at a later stage and it has to be finalised at the state level. We have not put forward any conditions. Our support to Nitish Kumar was also unconditional. But he decided to throw us out of the Grand Alliance. Now, under the leadership of PM Modi, we will strive to win all the 40 seats of Bihar,” Manjhi added.Sources told ET that Manjhi has asked for one Lok Sabha and one Rajya Sabha seat. The BJP has supposedly agreed to the demand. Manjhi wants his son Santosh Manjhi to contest from Gaya Lok Sabha seat which has been a traditional BJP seat.
