Tech giant Google has announced that it will soon be rolling out new features to its communications platform Meet’s picture-in-picture mode in Chrome that will enrich the user-experience. Directly from the picture-in-picture window, Google Meet users can now raise their hand, turn captions on and off, access flexible layouts, and more.

“We’re updating the Google Meet picture-in-picture experience to be more engaging and feature-rich,” the tech giant said in a Workspace Updates blogpost on Wednesday. Earlier, Google only allowed users to turn their camera or microphone on and off or leave the meeting from the picture-in-picture window.

“Our new picture-in-picture experience provides greater flexibility when screen sharing or navigating to a relevant screen for a more dynamic experience,” the company added.

The tech giant further said that the updated picture-in-picture mode is rolling out to all Google Workspace customers and users with personal Google Accounts. Meanwhile, last week, the tech giant Google had started to roll out a new viewer mode in its video communication service, which allows users to select ‘Everyone is a viewer’ when creating their Calendar invite.

When using Google Meet for large meetings, designating attendees as “viewers” will help reduce potential meeting distractions, like audio disruptions.

Meanwhile, Google has also introduced two new voices, Lime and Indigo, for its virtual assistant software application ‘Google Assistant’. “We added two new styles to our collection of US English voices, designed to bring more diversity to your current options,” Google said in a blogpost. To find the new voices, users just have to say, “Hey Google, change your voice.”Last week, it was reported that the tech giant will be shutting down the third-party Google Assistant Notes & Lists integration on June 20.

Users have long had the option in Google Assistant settings to select a Notes & Lists provider for voice commands that allow users to create or edit a list/note on speakers and Smart Displays.
