Now as per recent reports, the Meta-owned social network has released a new update to the feature which allows users to add descriptions to forwarded images, videos, GIFs, and documents. The update has been rolled out to Android beta testers 2.23.8.22, according to the WABetaInfo report.
This feature, if rolled out publicly, can really help a lot of users who often get confused on how to remove captions from a media file they wish to forward. The feature will also come in handy if the current caption doesn’t accurately describe the image or if you want to add a different description.
In a screenshot shared with the report, users can remove the existing caption and then simply just add a new one for more information to go along with the forwarded message.
The new caption will be sent as a separate message without mentioning the original caption or revealing to the receiver that this isn’t the original message.
The purpose of this feature is to allow WhatsApp users to provide a brief explanation of why they forwarded the media. They can also share their thoughts, opinions, or feelings about the content being forwarded. The report further warned that the update may cause some issues with WhatsApp as several beta testers complained of experiencing issues when they tried to view status updates on the platform or download videos. We can expect WhatsApp to fix the glitch in next update. Meanwhile, the instant-messaging platform has also rolled out the companion mode feature to all beta testers in its latest update on Android. The companion mode was previously only available to a select group of WhatsApp beta testers.
This feature, an extension of multi-device support, has been designed to allow users to link their existing WhatsApp account to another mobile phone.
