Ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s high level meeting for the situation in Uttarakhand’s Joshimath, a Public Interest Litigation has been filed in Delhi High Court seeking the Court’s instruction to form a high power meeting under the supervision of retired Justice of High court along with other members from ministries.

The PIL seeks the Delhi High court to direct the a high power committee that will promptly look over the Joshimath situation in order to rehabilitate the people affected by the land subsidence.

The petitioner, Rohit Dandriyal, in his petition also stated that the catalyst for the plight of the Joshmaths residence was the construction activities which were carried out in the town. The Petitioner also stated that the construction activities also defied the fundamental right of the residents living there as they face the consequences of the actions.

The plea also added that the respondent onus to act as a welfare state to safeguard the living facilities to the affected residents in the Joshimath situation. The petitioner also stated that it is important for the union government to take note of the situation and deliver the citizens with amenities that are required for them to lead a dignified life.

According to reports, the plea by the petitioner will be heard in the coming week by the Division bench of Delhi High Court.

Narendra Modi government’s action

The Prime Minister of India will chair a high level meeting on the prevailing Joshimath situation of land subsidence on Sunday afternoon, reports said.

According to a press release, the Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister, PK Mishra will also conduct a high-level meeting in the afternoon to come up with a plan of action in the Joshimath land subsidence matter in Chamoli.

The meeting will also be attended by Joshimath District officials, as well as, Uttarakhand Officers through video conference.

Joshimath Situation

Uttarakhand’s Joshimath town in Chamoli came to light after residents sounded an alarm to the media as the houses of the residents developed cracks on the wall. As a result of the residents’ alarm, the district government set up plans for the families affected by the subsidence in the meantime. 66 families have reportedly left Joshimath as of right now as a result of the appearance of cracks in the dwellings.
