Resisting the Supreme Court’s attempt to revisit the 2016 demonetisation exercise, the government said on Friday the court cannot decide a matter when no tangible relief can be granted by way of “putting the clock back” and “unscrambling a scrambled egg”. The remarks by Attorney General R Venkataramani came after the apex court asked the Union government to explain whether it consulted the the Central Board of Reserve Bank of India (RBI) before undertaking demonetisation of Rs 500 and Rs 1000 denomination notes in 2016.

Railways to export Vande Bharat trains by 2025-26: Official
The railways is looking at becoming a major exporter of Vande Bharat trains by 2025-26 to markets in Europe, South America and East Asia, a senior official said on Friday, adding that the latest version of the indigenous trains with sleeper coaches will be operational by the first quarter of 2024. He also said the railways is planning to clock 10-12 lakh kilometers on 75 Vande Bharat trains over the next few years, for these to be export ready.

Poland proposes freezing household gas tariffs at 2022 level, says minister
Poland’s government will propose that gas tariffs for households be frozen at 2022 levels, the climate minister said on Friday. “(We are proposing) a 100% freeze on the gas tariff that households will pay at this year’s level, we are talking about a net amount,” Anna Moskwa told a news conference.

Pakistan delays 500,000 tonnes wheat tender to Nov. 30 – traders
A government agency in Pakistan has postponed the deadline for submission of price offers in an international tender to purchase and import 500,000 tonnes of wheat to Nov. 30 from Nov. 28 previously, European traders said on Friday. Traders said they had been sent a message by the purchasing agency Trading Corporation of Pakistan (TCP) informing them of the delay. The TCP gave no reason for the postponement, they said.

G20: First tourism track meeting to be held in Rann of Kutch
Preparations for the G20 meetings in India are on course and the first meeting under the tourism track will be held in the picturesque Rann of Kutch in Gujarat, a top official said here on Friday. Union Tourism Secretary Arvind Singh also told reporters on the sidelines of an event at the UN House that sustainability will be one of the priority areas when India hosts the G20 events. India will assume the yearlong presidency of G20 on December 1 and more than 200 meetings of the bloc will be held across 55 locations in the country.

Union minister Nitin Gadkari on Friday said all vehicles belonging to the Indian government that have completed 15 years will be scrapped, and a policy to that effect has been sent to states. He was speaking at the inauguration of the annual ‘Agro-Vision’ agriculture exhibition here. “Yesterday, I signed a file under the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi that all the vehicles of the Indian government which have completed 15 years will be scrapped. Union Budget 2023-24 may see up to 400 new Vande Bharat trains being announced
There will be 300-400 new Vande Bharat trains announced in the Union Budget 2023-24 according to a top Railway Ministry official in the know. It is also expected that the gross budgetary support (GBS) for the national transporter is going to top the Rs 1.37 lakh crore allocation earmarked during Budget 2022-23. This will be the highest ever allocation once announced in the next year’s Union Budget for the Indian Railways. “Among other this, this allocation will be spent in laying new lines with an aim to decongest the Indian Railways and make it future ready,” another official told ET.

An increase by 26,490 (+90%) as compared to 2019 (29,552), British High Commission added.

Silver futures decline by Rs 606
On the Multi Commodity Exchange, silver contracts for December delivery declined by Rs 606 or 0.98 per cent to Rs 61,387 per kg in a business turnover of 9,675 lots.
Globally, silver was trading 0.36 per cent lower at USD 21.47 per ounce in New York.
