Twitter Blue is likely to cost in India Rs 719 per month. As part of the plan users will get free verification badge, although Twitter will continue to be available to non-paying users as well.
By India Today Tech: On Wednesday, Twitter rolled out Twitter Blue to users in the US, UK and a few other countries. In the US, the service, which allows users to have a verified badge for free, costs $7.99. In India, it is likely to cost Rs 719.
Some Twitter users in India have started seeing a prompt nudging them to subscribe to Twitter Blue. The Blue service, which was rolled out to users in the US as well as a few other countries on Wednesday, is expected to be widely available in India in the coming days. The service is likely to cost Rs 719 per month in India, if the prompt is accurate, and will be first offered to iPhone users.
As part of Twitter Blue, users will get free — and without undergoing any verification — the Blue Tick of verification. In addition, Twitter owner Elon Musk, has said that Twitter Blue users also get priority in reach and display on Twitter.
The Blue rollout from Twitter has been fairly contentious so far. Many have decried that with it Twitter is handing verification badge to all sorts of users who may misuse the privilege. Musk, however, has said that if anyone misuses Twitter Blue, they will forfeit their money and their accounts will be permanently suspended.
When Musk had announced the plan for Twitter Blue, he had said that outside the US the price of the service will depend on the purchasing power in that country. This had led to speculation in India, the price of Twitter Blue would be significantly lower than $7.99 that Musk had proposed for the US. However, if the prompt that users in India are getting are accurate, that doesn’t seem to be the case. Rs 719 per month for a service like Twitter Blue seems fairly steep.
