Trinamool considering legal options, says Roy

The All India Trinamool Congress (AITC) is considering legal options and may appeal against the Election Commission of India (ECI) order which withdrew the national status of the party, said its vice president Saugata Roy.

“We are considering legal options. We are exploring all options,” Roy said on Tuesday, a day after the ECI withdrew the party’s national status, adding that “it will not impact panchayat polls in Bengal”.

The withdrawal of national status came as a blow before the upcoming Lok Sabha polls in 2024, as it may dampen AITC’s national plans.

Meanwhile, in another setback, AITC’s Rajya Sabha member Luzinho Faleiro submitted his resignation to Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar on Tuesday. He told PTI that he will soon resign from AITC also and that for the moment he is not joining any political party. “Trinamool had reportedly asked Faleiro to vacate the seat in the Upper House after the debacle in Goa assembly polls last year,” a person aware of the matter told ET on condition of anonymity.
