After Principal Secretary Nandini Chakraborty was relieved from duty by West Bengal Governor C V Ananda Bose on Sunday, she has been appointed as Principal Secretary in the Tourism department following a two-day stalemate, without any tussle between the Governor and the state government over Chakraborty’s release. Unlike former Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar, who always had a war of words and twitter battle with the Mamata Banerjee government, the new Governor had silently relieved Chakraborty from duty.

West Bengal governor CV Ananda Bose had relieved Chakravorty of her duties amid speculations that a new team will be constituted by him with senior state and central IAS officers, Raj Bhavan on condition of anonymity, said.

Chakravorty was appointed as principal secretary to former Bengal Governor La Ganesan, who had taken interim charge, after Jagdeep Dhankhar, in August 2022 and she continued in the post till Bose’s appointment in November last year.

Chakraborty is 1994-batch Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer from the West Bengal cadre. Prior to her appointment in Raj Bhawan, she was in the Tourism Department.

No order to recall Chakravorty or assign a new officer was issued by the state secretariat till Tuesday, Nabanna sources said.

It is pertinent to mention that Leader of Opposition (LoP) in the state assembly Suvendu Adhikari alleged that Chakraborty was misguiding the Governor.

“Nandini Chakravorty was misguiding the governor but the latter is coming back on track. I am hopeful that he will follow the path shown by former governors Gopal Krishna Gandhi and Jagdeep Dhankhar to protect democracy,” Adhikari said.Adhikari’s comment had raised controversy in the political circles with Trinamool Congress criticizing it.“We must remember that C V Ananda Bose has been sent by the people who had sent Jagdeep Dhankhar. Their process of working may be different but they have come from the same place,” a senior Trinamool leader said.
