KEY HIGHLIGHTS
- Bangladesh defeated India by 5 wickets in the 2nd ODI
- Rohit Sharma suffered a thumb injury while fielding at slips in the 1st innings.
- The Indian skipper smashed 51 runs from 28 balls batting at no.9.
Gavaskar feels that the India captain should have come out to bat earlier at no. 7 instead of no. 9. “I feel if he could come out to bat at number 9, then he could have perhaps batted at number 7. This would have helped helped the others. Who knows, may be Axar Patel wouldn’t have played the shot that he did to get out. This is because they didn’t know whether Rohit would come out to bat or how serious his injury was,” the legend said on the post match show on Sony Sports Network.
In the post match presentation ceremony, Rohit Sharma confirmed that there was not any fracture on his thumb. “It (thumb injury) isn’t too great. Some dislocation and some stitches. Fortunately, not a fracture and so, I was able to bat,” said Rohit.
However, in what will come as a bad news for the fans, head coach Rahul Dravid has confirmed that Rohit will miss the third ODI against Bangladesh and is also a doubt for the upcoming two-match Test series against the same opponents.
