Streetwear ruled the ramp at fashion week

Designers showing at fashion weeks may change invariably, but one thing that never changes is the guests’ dedication to dressing for the camera. Amongst the biggest off runway trend that fashion enthusiasts have taken rapidly to has been streetstyle. A rage, a phenomenon that took a life of it’s own outside of the runway. For a fresh change indeed, the recently concluded edition of Lakmé Fashion Week X FDCI that took place in Mumbai was home to athleisure, street fits and Gen-Z approved drip.
Fluidity in presentations, be it visually, in silhouettes or in the designer’s vision that manifested on the runway, marked its presence through culturally urbane collections amidst a spectrum of bridal and glamorous ensembles.

But one thing surely stood out – Drum rolls…street style! Bearing testament to this trend were not only attendees and creators who repped this post-pandemic transition to relaxed outerwear at fashion week but was also brought alive in showcases by emerging and established designers.

Sahil Aneja’s Holy Grail

Holy Grail celebrated the aesthetic individuality of the wearer with an inspiration that was as unique. Aneja looked up to the tall city scapes and the contrasting buzzing streets of the city to create his version of men’s fashion. While the collection was styled for male models, it was aimed at both men and women consumers and
incorporated many gender-neutral silhouettes. Ensuring that each ensemble in the collection was an eye- catching piece of art, Sahil visualized abstract and bright prints on neutral dark backgrounds inspired by graffiti
art for a striking visual impact. The giant checked, bold printed hoodies under oversized coats and alphabet printed jackets brought a diversity to the collection. With graffiti and bold urban prints, which were at times distorted, the collection told a fascinating fashion tale with detailed craftsmanship.

Hiral Jajal’s Dystopian Bride

HIRO for INIFD presents GenNext at LFW x FDCI Mar 23


As one of the winners for the INIFD presents GenNext talent programme, Hiral’s collection theme was the Dystopian Bride for her label Hiro. With neon shades of yellow and green as the star hues, the designer worked with extreme denim manipulation and presented an unconventional fashion story. The Dystopian Bride brought to the forefront an inspiration that emerged from a post-apocalyptic world, which turned the art of survival into a fight. The edgy silhouettes were embellished with creative but careful rouching and smocking, while the brand’s dyeing process revolved around great experiments by using tie-dye and stone washing that added to the visual impact of the apparel. This specially created technique helped achieve the distressed denim look with oversized, baggy drawstring denim parkas along with multiple pockets that added a touch of utility, and the trailing drawstrings made a relaxed fashion statement. Teamed with intricately designed, comfy denim jeans with contrast top stitching to highlight the clever construction, the combo offered a great unisex option.

A Warrior’s Journey by Two Point Two

A Warrior’s Journey by the ‘Two Point Two’ label created by Anvita Sharma made a strong, gender agnostic, fashion statement that could also be understood as an all-inclusive, sustainable description for the brand.
Anvita felt that a warrior in everyone exists, so the label took its inspiration from the Shu-Ha-Ri philosophy of Japanese martial arts. Bringing together all the teachings of Shu-Ha-Ri into the collection, there was a great
amalgamation of Japanese streetwear that combined energy, creativity, and individuality in the looks. Printed co-ord sets were topped with knee length robes that sported giant lapels. The giant profiles of Japanese faces were emblazoned on the back of vividly printed calf length covers. The silhouettes were baggy and almost over
sized, to fit the requirements of a wide variety of buyers of all genders.

What should one pack when going on a holiday? The answer has very often baffled the eager traveller. To make the choice easy yet fashionable, the Six5Six label’s The Uniform collection by Avni Aneja unveiled had all the
right offering. Ever since 2018 when the label Six5Six was launched, it has been in the forefront of fashion and a hot favourite with celebs and stars. This season the brand’s inspiration was from the many postcards as well as photographs taken during the travels by the designer. It was evident that here was a vacation streetwear look that would be adored by the jet set adventurer since a vacation wardrobe must be practical and sturdy but very stylish. The brand kept its fashion statement firmly in focus, for apparel that could be lived in or stepped out in style. Comfort was brought in with denim, while oversized resort shirts were the ideal option for sturdy clothing.
