Recently, tech giant Google credited money – ranging from a few dollars to more than $1,000 – to the accounts of some Pixel phone users. The notification said that they were being paid for “dogfooding the Google Pay remittance experience.”
In the tech world, the term ‘dogfooding’ refers to the practice of testing a new feature or service for a brand before it is made available to the general public.
Instead of sending the money to people who tested some Google features, the company accidentally released the cash reward to others. The GSMArena reported that some people on the /r/GooglePixel subreddit were the lucky Pixel users who unexpectedly discovered free cash in their Google Pay accounts.
After the goof-up, the search engine giant informed the affected users that they would attempt to reverse the payment. However, if they were unable to do so, the money would be theirs to keep.
Meanwhile, Google will reportedly launch its upcoming ‘Pixel Fold’ and ‘Pixel 7a’ smartphones in June this year. The speculations suggest the foldable Pixel Fold will launch in mid-June, alongside Pixel 7a and a new blue variant of the Pixel Buds A-Series.
The foldable smartphone is expected to come in two colours – Carbon (a shade of black or grey) and Porcelain (white).Last month, the San Francisco-based company offered some Pixel Superfans a chance to try out its artificial intelligence (AI) chatbot ‘Bard‘ – which will compete with OpenAI’s ChatGPT.
While Bard has very limited public availability, the tech giant picked a “small, randomly selected group of Pixel Superfans” who will get the chance to access the chatbot first.
However, the selected few don’t have the option to try out Bard immediately. They are on a waitlist for early access, once they sign up.
In an email to users, the company wrote, “Meet Bard, an early experiment by Google that lets you collaborate with generative AI. We’d like to offer you – a member of our Pixel Superfan community – early access so you can get started as soon as Bard launches, and share your feedback.”
In February, Google unveiled its new AI service, and said that it is opened up to “trusted testers.” Bard is an “experimental conversational AI service” which is powered by Language Model for Dialogue Applications (LaMDA), as per the tech giant.
The tool aims to combine the depth of the “world’s knowledge with the power, intelligence and creativity of our large language models”. Also, it uses data from the web to provide fresh and high-quality responses.
