Chandigarh: Punjab medical education and research minister Dr Balbir Singh on Tuesday advocated for the promotion of indigenous systems of medicine, naturopathy and yoga. Presiding over a meeting at Medical Education Bhawan in Mohali, the minister suggested various measures which could be taken for increasing the number of persons seeking benefits from ayurveda, unani and homeopathic systems. He said treatments for major ailments like cancer, diabetes, etc. can be prevented in the initial stages by using herbal medicines.
Teachers oppose use of English in SCERT
Chandigarh: The Democratic Teachers Front on Tuesday asked the state government to punish the State Council for Education Research and Training (SCERT) under the Punjabi State Language Act of 1967 for using English in official communication.
Democratic Teachers’ Front’s state president Vikram Dev Singh said: “All the letters that the SCERT’s director issued in the last few weeks were in English. His office has neglected Punjabi language in the past as well.”
