Elon Musk is on his way to revamp Twitter and is taking drastic measures to cut down on expenditure. In the latest move, Musk reportedly fired employees from the infrastructure division.

Even after the mass firings of Twitter’s global workforce, the Elon Musk-owned firm is still not settled on laying off employees. On Friday, December 16, Twitter reportedly laid off engineers from its infrastructure division. While the number of employees laid off is still not clear, many engineers who lost their job received an email stating that their role is no longer required in the company.

According to a report by The Information, many Twitter employees who are in Twitter’s infrastructure organisation received an official email on Friday evening stating that Twitter has reviewed its workforce and is cutting down on the roles which are no longer necessary. Earlier, Elon Musk reportedly fired Nelson Abramson, Twitter’s head of infrastructure alongside other senior employees in the company. He also fired Alan Rosa, global information technology head and vice president of information security.

With the recent layoff, Musk has cut down the entire workforce of Twitter by 75 per cent since his takeover of the microblogging site in late October. The social media giant reportedly had a strong workforce of 7,500 before the mass firings, including then-CEO Parag Agrawal. However, just after closing the deal, Musk laid off more than 2,000 employees and introduced “hardcore” work culture where employees are required to serve long working hours.

The total number of employees further decreased after around 1,200 employees filed their resignation followed after they rejected Musk’s “hardcore” work-style to build Twitter 2.0. In India Twitter reportedly laid off over 200 employees across engineering, sales and marketing, and communications teams.

Meanwhile, Musk has started a poll on Twitter asking people if he should step down as Twitter CEO. “Should I step down as head of Twitter? I will abide by the results of this poll,” Musk wrote in his tweet. As of now, around 56 per cent voters voted yes and asked Musk to step down as the CEO. In another tweet, Musk announced that he will be taking a vote for the majority of policy changes which are planned for Twitter. “Going forward, there will be a vote for major policy changes. My apologies. Won’t happen again,” he wrote in a thread.
