The latest fiasco started after the Deputy Head of Unit Interinstitutional & Outreach Views at the European Union, Ricardo Cardoso, retweeted the initial EU post with some personal comments.

What was the ‘console war’ on Twitter
In this tweet, Cardoso mentioned that the Commission is trying to make sure that players will are allowed to play Call of Duty on other consoles from other brands (including his PlayStation). Cardoso also mocked the stock picture that was used by the EU. He pointed out that the picture shows wired controllers whereas Xbox and Playstation have had wireless gamepads since 2006.
Cardoso’s comments started a full-blown ‘tweet war’ on the Elon Musk-owned micro-blogging site. Console fans from both brands started colliding with each other using their opinions on the thread of the official post. Soon, the thread was filled with comments from some users asking to include PlayStation exclusives on Xbox while others struggled to retain Call of Duty on Sony consoles.
Judging by the consequences created by his tweet, Cardoso shared another post to clarify that his comments were in no way related to the assessment of the merger. He added that the Commission will take the decision based on the “facts and the law.” Cardoso even explained that these were personal comments and weren’t made from the Commission’s point of view.
To clarify: I am not involved in the assessment of the merger and don’t even work in the department dealing with me… https://t.co/n8R9cH67AT
