Since Apple rolled out the edit feature on iPhones, the Internet has been buzzing with reports suggesting that WhatsApp has been busy working on the edit feature. Now latest reports suggest that the tech giant has already started testing the ability to edit messages on its beta version for Android.
A report in WABetaInfo, WhatsApp plans on rolling out the update which gives users the permission to edit sent messages on the platform in the coming weeks.
The report further revealed that the social media giant will allow users to edit the sent messages within a specific time frame. The feature is expected to be rolled out for all WhatsApp users in the coming weeks alongside another new feature which will allow users to silence unknown callers on WhatsApp.
The most awaited feature was spotted on WhatsApp Beta for Android version 2.23.10.13 and WhatsApp Beta for iOS version 23.10.0.70.
On Android device, the option to Edit Message will appear under the three-dot menu next to the text one wishes to edit, while on Apple, the option to edit the text will appear after holding the long-press menu. As of now, the tech company doesn’t allow users to edit sent messages on its all three platforms – iOS, Android and Web. But the report suggest that WhatsApp will allow users 15 minutes window to edit the sent messages once the feature is rolled out.Meanwhile, WhatsApp is also reportedly working on a broadcast channel conversation on Android, including 12 new features. The ability to view channels is under development and it will be available to beta testers in a future update of the app, the report added.
Other features that WhatsApp is currently working on rolling out on the platform include full-width messaging interface in the conversation, verification status, number of followers, mute notification button, handles, real followers count, shortcuts, channel description, mute notification toggle, visibility status, privacy, and reporting.
