Earlier, Viacom18 Sports CEO Anil Jayaraj had stated that the ongoing IPL season will break the digital concurrency record held by Disney+ Hotstar for India vs. New Zealand match.

The Star India-owned streaming platform had 25.3 million concurrent viewers for the semi-final match between India and New Zealand during the 2019 ICC Cricket World Cup.

He also stated that JioCinema had reached over 35 million people on Connected TV (CTV). “IPL viewership on digital is not just on mobile digital, but is also doing well at the top of the pyramid on CTV,” he said.

Recently, the Chennai Super Kings vs. Rajasthan Royals match on JioCinema drew a record-breaking 22 million concurrent viewers. Prior to that, Disney+ Hotstar held the record for the highest concurrent viewership, with 18.6 million watching the final match of the 2019 IPL season. The streaming app has roped in 23 sponsors for the tournament.
