Last week, Musk announced that Twitter users will be able to offer their followers subscriptions to content including hours-long video and long-form text. The feature is accessible under the ‘Monetization’ tab in Settings.
Later, the Twitter CEO posted a screenshot revealing the number of followers he has on the microblogging platform: 24,700. The 51-year-old was explaining how the Twitter creator program works.
“Content creators may wish to enable subscriptions on this platform. Just tap on Monetization in settings,” Musk tweeted.
With his total subscriber count on full display, it wasn’t too tough for people to figure out how much Musk is earning just through his official Twitter account via Monetization feature.

As per Twitter’s Subscriptions Creator page, the microblogging site pays $3.39 to creators after the deduction of app fees and Twitter’s part of revenue. According to the revenue breakdown posted on Twitter website, the cost of the subscription is $4.99 per month for subscribers in the USA, which is roughly Rs 408.
As per the revenue breakdown shared on Twitter website, creators are allowed to set the price of their Subscription offering by choosing from one of three price points made available by Twitter — $2.99, $4.99, or $9.99. After the deduction of app fees and Twitter’s revenue share, a creator gets $3.39 i.e approximately Rs 277.
Going by this calculation, Musk, who has 24.7K subscribers on Twitter, is earning up to Rs 68,42,000 a month which means that the Tesla chief is earning close to Rs 8.2 crore a year simply through his personal Twitter account.
Musk had further said that for the next 12 months, Twitter will not keep any money from users, which they will earn from their monetised content.
“You will receive whatever money we receive, so that’s 70 per cent for subscriptions on iOS & Android (they charge 30 per cent) and 92 per cent on the web (could be better, depending on payment processor),” he added.
However, after the completion of 12 months, the iOS and Android fees will drop to 15 per cent, and the company will add a smaller amount on top of that based on volume.
The tech billionaire also mentioned that the company will also help promote the work of creators on the platform.
