The grand and famous Chittorgarh Fort in Rajasthan is all set to become the first fort in India to remain illuminated throughout the year. Yes, you read that right! The spellbinding fort from the 8th century is also a UNESCO World Heritage Site. As per the government of Rajasthan, the prime motive behind this decision is to boost the tourism in the region along with offering visitors a different experience.

For this initiative, Chittorgarh is paying a hefty amount of INR 8 crore and it has already been approved by the union ministry of culture. An extra effort will be put on fighting off the monkeys which are infamous in the region for destroying floodlights at the fort.

However, the year round lightning definitely does not mean that the fort will also remain open throughout the night. Vantage points will be made for visitors to view the incredible fort in all its glory. The longest stretch of the project is a 4 km long wall and it will be visible from a 20 km long distance!

Chittorgarh DM Arvind Poswal said, “The idea is to give an experience to visitors like never before. The lightning doesn’t mean that the fort will be open throughout the night, but some places will be identified wherein visitors can see the glory of the fort entirely. It will help in allowing tourists to stay overnight in the city which is considered as a daylong tourist centre”.
