bjp: BJP leaders engage in series of meetings before finalising names

Senior BJP leaders from Karnataka arrived here on Friday for the state core committee meeting to finalise names for May 10 polls. Chief minister Basavaraj Bommai and former CM and Lingayat strongman BS Yediyurappa engaged in a series of meetings with BJP chief JP Nadda and general secretary (org) BL Santhosh.

According to sources, there will be a series of meetings before BJP’s central election committee meeting on Sunday. BJP is yet to announce candidates for the Karnataka polls.

“We will hold meetings on April 8 and 9 and tickets will be distributed on April 10. The process of ticket selection is going on as per the rules. We held meetings for three consecutive days and took the opinion of party workers, leaders and people,” Bommai said in Bengaluru before leaving for New Delhi, adding: “The final list will be discussed as we have cleared three names for each constituency.”

After Himachal Pradesh, local-level BJP office-bearers in every assembly constituency were given a form to fill names of three candidates of their choice, which was then screened at the district level and followed by at the state level.

Names of Govind Karjol, KS Eshwarappa, Ramesh Jarkiholi, Veeranna Somanna, Vijayendra Yeddyurappa featured in the list prepared by BJP’s Karnataka unit.
