BGMI India: BGMI to be back in India soon? Here’s everything you need to know

Krafton released PUBG: Battlegrounds (formerly PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds) in India in September 2020. It had become one of India’s best mobile battle royale games and has played a role in boosting the country’s esports scenario. However, less than a year after its launch, the Indian government banned the game, along with several other Chinese-made apps, citing national security concerns.

Notably, South Korea-based Krafton was the developer of PUBG, and Chinese IT company Tencent, as publisher and distributor, was responsible for making PUBG Mobile available in other countries, including India. Because of this, PUBG was banned due to its ties to the rival Indian country. However, after months of banning PUBG Mobile, Krafton has resumed its battle royale game under a new name, Battlegrounds Mobile India (BGMI).

BGMI is the Indian version of PUBG Mobile, exclusively for Indian players, and Krafton has removed Tencent as the publisher and distributor of BGMI to ensure the game is safe and in line with Indian government guidelines.

The game once again dominated the esports market, but the joy was short-lived as the game was again removed from the app stores less than a year after its release on July 28.
The Indian government has again raised security concerns, so the game has been removed from its virtual store for download. Since then all attention has been on his BGMI reboot or related updates.

After BGMI was banned, Krafton released an official statement, promising to resolve ongoing issues with the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY). Speaking with India Today Tech recently, the company confirmed that they are still in talks to bring the game back.

Meanwhile, many YouTubers and prominent gaming personalities have announced over the past few months that BGMI is scheduled to return in late 2022 or early 2023. However, upon contacting krafton, he said the company is working with the government to bring BGMI back to India.

However, a reopening date has not yet been revealed.Krafton, the makers of BGMI and PUBG Mobile, have given Indian fans some good news, confirming two new games for the Indian market. During a recent visit to the company’s offices in Seoul, South Korea, Krafton let press know that he plans to release two games early next year: The Callisto Protocol and Defense Derby.
