New Delhi: While the nation watched in horror the Morbi bridge tragedy & its aftermath, volunteers of BAPS Swami Narayan Sanstha were silently carrying out relief & rescue operation at the mishap site and lifting stranded people to safety.
As the news broke of bridge collapse, the Swamis & volunteers of BAPS immediately reached the Machcchu river in Morbi, where the hanging bridge caved in and rescued many people while risking their own.
Param Pujya Mahant Swami Maharaj, the spiritual head of BAPS Swaminarayan Sanstha conveyed his condolences and also expressed sympathy for the families who have lost their family & relatives in the Morbi tragedy.
Subhash was one such volunteer of the BAPS Swaminarayan Mandir who jumped into the river and rescued at least 6 people. His presence of mind and quick action helped save at least half a dozen lives. While locals & boatmen worked overnight to pull people from water, a sizeable number of BAPs volunteers contributed in the daunting task.
Apart from rescue work, the BAPS volunteers also worked to alleviate the sufferings of people & assisted the military team during relief work.
A relief kitchen was set up by the BAPS Swaminarayan Mandir , where they prepared food for military personnel and others involved in the rescue operation.
Later, Prime Minister Narendra Modi met and lauded the efforts of those engaged in rescue operations, including Swamis & volunteers of BAPS Swaminarayan Sanstha.
Morbi bridge collapse, one of the most deadly & horrific tragedy in recent times, resulted in the death of over 135 people while many families have been scarred for life. Some families got completed wiped out while many families lost their loved ones in the horrific bridge mishap.
