Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal will take his fight against the Centre’s recently-promulgated Ordinance to every member of Parliament, including of the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party, and will appeal for a conscience vote.

Kejriwal will write to MPs to point out how “unconstitutional” the Ordinance is. “I will write even to BJP MPs and appeal to them that this is not a matter of one particular party. It is a constitutional matter and a wrong committed by the government. I will appeal to everyone to support us and vote against the Bill in Rajya Sabha,” said Kejriwal at a press conference in Ranchi. Kejriwal said that BJP has a brute majority in Lok Sabha but if the Opposition parties unite the Bill could be defeated in Rajya Sabha.

“BJP has 93 MPs in Rajya Sabha. So if the Opposition wants, it can defeat the Bill. My heart says this Bill replacing the Ordinance will not pass the Rajya Sabha’s muster,” he said.

Kejriwal and his Punjab counterpart Bhagwant Mann have been taking the fight against the Ordinance to different Opposition-ruled states to garner support in Rajya Sabha. On Friday, Jharkhand chief minister Shibu Soren pledged his support to Kejriwal. Terming the Ordinance as an “attempt to undermine the authority of elected governments”, Soren said his MPs would vote against the Bill replacing Ordinance whenever it is brought in Parliament.
