RRR stars on Oscar nominations

All cheers to SS Rajamouli, Ram Charan, Jr NTR and MM Keeravani for bringing the Golden Globes trophy home with the 2022 most-watched song Naatu Naatu from RRR! The whole is celebrating its historic win as it won the Best Original Song at Golden Globe Awards 2023. However, the film is currently looking for a nomination for an Oscar. Right now, Pan Nalin’s Last Film Show has been sent as India’s official Oscar entry for the Best International Film category.

RRR stars on not getting selected for India’s official entry at Oscars

During a conversation with an online portal, Jr NTR opened up about why their blockbuster film RRR was not selected as India’s official entry at the Oscars. NTR told Variety, “I don’t think there is a lot of politics going on with what films should go. I think the panel, which is sitting down there knows what they do best… Hindi has primarily been a national language for a very long time and that’s why it has taken prominence. For us, choose RRR or don’t choose RRR, RRR has already made us proud.” Ram Charan added to the answer in a lighthearted fashion, saying, “He (Jr. NTR) is being really humble but I want these two awards… I just don’t want to jinx it.”

He further spoke about Hindi being the national language and said their Telugu film RRR had made them proud, and whether it was chosen as India’s entry for the Oscars or not, did not matter.

About RRR

At the Golden Globes, SS Rajamouli’s RRR couldn’t bag the Best Non-English Language Film award, which was won by Argentina 1985 from Argentina. Apart from Ram Charan and Jr NTR, the film stars Alia Bhatt and Ajay Devgn as well as British actors Ray Stevenson, Alison Doody and Olivia Morris.

The global blockbuster has been co-written by SS Rajamouli and his father, screenwriter V Vijayendra Prasad. The film was released in India on March 24, 2022.
