After returning empty-handed from tours of Ireland and Zimbabwe, Rahul Tripathi was hoping to break into playing XI during first two matches in Bangladesh. However, Tripathi has so far warmed the bench. But Rohit Sharma’s injury has come as a lucky break for him. India have only 13 players available and in an inconsequential match, he is in the fray.
Tripathi has been one of the most consistent uncapped IPL players every season. Despite getting runs consistently he is yet to break into India’s playing XI. With India’s injury crises getting deeper, Tripathi would hope to get a break.
With Shreyas Iyer already proving his mettle, Dravid may opt to rest him for Tripathi to get a break.
“Why have you taken Rajat Patidar and Rahul Tripathi to Bangladesh? What has Tripathi done in ODIs? He is a T20 specialist, but you have picked him in the one-day team. I don’t think he will play. The new selection committee and management must first decide the core team,” former selector Saba Karim told India News.
