The temple is about 150 years old, and when high tide arrives, the entire temple gets wholly submerged under water and disappears from sight and once again re-emerges once the tide passes. The devotees of Lord Shiva offer their gifts in the morning during low tide and stay late in the evening to watch the temple gradually submerge under water.
Devji Maharaj Mandir, Madhya Pradesh
Devji Maharaj Mandir in Madhya Pradesh is the place where devotees from all over India flock together during the full moon every month to cast away the spell of ghosts, demons, and evil spirits. As reparation for wrongs, bhakts light up camphor tablets on bare palms to petrify the evil spirits residing within them to leave their body. While some of the devotees choose to run around, others prefer getting smacked by a broom. Every year, bhoot mela or ghost fair is organised in the temple grounds to alleviate evil spirits. Devaragattu Temple, Andhra Pradesh
Devaragattu Temple, situated at the Kurnool district of Andhra Pradesh, is widely renowned for the Bani Festival. This ancient temple is located on the border of Karnataka, and every year on Dussehra, devotees from both the states congregate in large numbers with lathis, to bump each other on their heads till midnight.
The festival serves as a remembrance of the assassination of Mala-Malleswara (Shiva) and the male devotees deluged in blood celebrate this auspicious occasion throughout the night. This festival is getting celebrated for 100 years with axes and spears instead of lathis. The year 2014 is marked in the history for over 50 dead incidents recorded in the police diary.
Brihadeeswarar Temple, Tamil Nadu
The Brihadeeswarar Temple, located in Thanjavur, TamilNadu, is touted for its architectural marvel. A significant portion of the temple structure is carved out of pure granite. However, the most surprising fact is no granite sources were existing anywhere within the range of 60Kms of the temple. The crest of the temple, the Gopuram, is designed out of a single stone now weighing 80 tons. Since the granite resources were not available in the vicinity of the place, it has been a massive mystery how the granites were mounted to create a structure like it.
Anantha Padmanabha Swamy Temple, Kerala
This Hindu temple has seven secret vaults. The supreme court has requested the temple authority to open 6 of those vaults that displayed gold jewellery worth over a few billion dollars. The 7th vault is not possessed with latches or volts. It has carvings symbolising two cobras. According to a common belief, a secret mantra will allow the door to open, and any other means would invite calamities that are enigmatic and deadly.
