The city police have so far arrested six associates of the deceased Jamesha Mubeen, after invoking the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act. Mubeen was killed after a gas cylinder in the car he was travelling in exploded in front of the Kottai Eswaran Temple at Kottaimedu in the communally sensitive Ukkdam area, a day ahead of Diwali.
Speaking to media, Thiru A Abdul Jabbar, General Secretary of Coimbatore District United Jamaat, said, “In the early hours of October 23, in front of Kottaimedu Eswaran Temple, a massive car blast happened. Firstly, they said it was a cylinder blast but news started to unfold later. In continuation of that, there is state of panic in Coimbatore south area. We met the Coimbatore commissioner in this regard. According to us, this is an act of terror. God saved the people of Coimbatore and punished those who were involved in the incident.”
Sharing a video of Jabbar’s media interaction, Tamil Nadu BJP chief K Annamalai said that the ruling DMK government in the state has to understand that its “minority appeasement politics” doesn’t work anymore.

Thiru Abdul Jabbar doesn’t believe in the cylinder blast story and calls it an “Act of Terror.” What’s stopping @CMOTamilnadu from saying it? DMK has to understand it’s minority appeasement politics doesn’t work any more! This govt’s inability to govern is out in the open now!,” he tweeted.

The Tamil Nadu government on Wednesday said that it would ask the Centre to task the National Investigation Agency (NIA) to probe into the Coimbatore explosion case. The NIA officials also held discussions with the Tamil Nadu police on Wednesday in connection with the blast.

The anti-terror probe agency officials are likely to visit the blast site and the house of the deceased, where 75 kg of low intensive explosives were seized.

Chief Minister MK Stalin has been under fire from the Opposition AIADMK and BJP over the issue.

The city has been brought under a tight security cover, as the explosion occurred in front of Kottai Eswaran Temple in the heart of the city in the communally sensitive Ukkdam area, a day ahead of Deepavali.
