The smartphone maker is trying its best to up the game with its future iPhones. According to a recent report, Apple wants to make its future iPhones scratch-resistant.
The company has recently issued a patent for ‘Spatial Composites’. The term refers to integrating metal or ceramic with a chassis for scratch resistance.
The AppleInsider report said that the iPhone maker mentioned in the patent, “(Mobile) phones, watches, and tablet computers, can experience contact with various surfaces that leads to marring, or abrasion, of the surface of the device. (Regular housing) materials for such devices may have different combinations of properties relating to strength, appearance, abrasion resistance, electromagnetic shielding, and the like. (For instance), metal housings may be particularly resistant to dents, scratches or breakage, but may interfere with radio signals entering or emanating from the device.”
In the patent documents, the tech giant said that the various materials used in an iPhone chassis have a variety of advantages as well as drawbacks. The drawings in the patent showed a variety of “abrasion-resistant members” in various shapes, each with distinctive benefits but serving the same general purpose.
Another drawing submitted in the patent showed that the members “dotted over the back of an iPhone.”In August last year, analyst Ming-Chi Kuo claimed that “high-end iPhones in 2024 would adopt an under-display front camera alongside the under-display Face ID.”However, an AppleInsider report said that the Pro variants of iPhone 17 are likely to get the “under panel Face ID + hole” feature, while the non-Pro variant is expected to come with an LTPO backplane and ProMotion support.
The AppleInsider report quoted display analyst Ross Young, who claimed that the new upcoming Apple iPhone 16 Pro is expected to feature a 6.27-inch display. It is also believed that the high-end model – iPhone 16 Pro Max – will come with a 6.86-inch display. The aspect ratio for the iPhone 16 Pro models is also expected to be 19.6:9.
Earlier, social media was abuzz that the iPhone 16 Pro Max will be the only iPhone model to feature a periscope camera. iPhone 16 Pro is also expected to feature under-display Face ID technology to provide a more usable display area.
