Apple Headset: Don’t want to shell $3499 for Vision Pro? Sweat not, Apple is also working on cheaper mixed-reality headset

At this year’s WWDC keynote, Apple CEO Tim Cook announced ‘One More Thing’ before moving to its latest updates and teases, which happened to be company’s most-waited mixed-reality headset, the Vision Pro.

While in the past, Apple has hesitated to disclose the amount of its ‘One More Thing’ products, it didn’t waste a minute to announce the expensive price tag of its Vision Pro. When Apple announced its smartwatch at one of the WWDC events, it kept the price under wraps.

However, with Vision Pro, Apple disclosed the amount which is $3499, even though the product isn’t releasing anytime soon.

Now the price of Vision Pro itself is another topic of discussion as its way costlier than its rival Quest Pro, from Meta. But if latest reports are to be believed, Apple is “already working on a cheaper model to get the new product category onto the faces of more people.”

As per the report, the fact that Apple has named its upcoming headset Vision Pro, in itself implies that there will be a non-Pro version of the mixed-reality device.

“Apple is already at work on a cheaper version of the headset that will help it sell more units. The name Vision Pro even implies there’s a non-Pro version in the works, which one has to assume will be called the Apple Vision or Apple Vision One,”Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman said. The report further added that the cheaper model of Vision Pro will go on sale at the end of 2025. Meanwhile, Apple will reportedly open applications for the Vision Pro developer kit in July.

This means that developers working on applications for the Vision Pro headset will likely be able to apply for the developer kit next month, reports AppleInsider.
According to the iPhone maker, the upcoming kit for developers offers “the ability to quickly build, iterate, and test on Apple Vision Pro, so your app or game will be ready to deliver amazing experiences.”
