Former Wimbledon champion Garbiñe Muguruza recently got engaged to her boyfriend Arthur Borges and they plan to get married next year. The love story of the Spanish-Venezuelan tennis champion began in 2021 when she had a chance encounter with Borges at Central Park in New York.

“You had me at ‘Hello,’” she posted on Instagram, sharing a photo of the pair.

The tennis star told www.hola.com that she took a random walk at the Central Park during her participation in the US Open. Muguruza, who was born in Venezuela, said that she felt bored in the room and decided to take a walk in the Park and take selfies to share with her followers later. Garbiñe Muguruza was previously coached by former tennis star Conchita Martinez. Born in Venezuela, her mother is from Venezuela and and father is from Spain. According to Women’s Tennis Association website, she began playing tennis at age 3 and her first memory of the sport was playing with her brothers.

Her favorite surface is hardcourts and her favorite tennis players growing up were Serena Williams and Pete Sampras.

Arthur Borges is the director of Made to Measure North America at Tom Ford, according to his LinkedIn profile.

According to Forbes, Garbiñe Muguruza was ranked at 24th position in the list of highest paid female athletes in 2022. She also has endorsements that includes Adidas, Babolat, Beiersdorf, Caser Seguros, Jaguar, Maui Jim, and Rolex.
