Ahead of the final of the 2023 edition of the Indian Premier League, players from finalists and defending champions Gujarat Titans are leading the record charts for both the Orange and Purple caps.

Shubman Gill’s purple patch in this year’s tournament continued into the semi-final of the cup, with the batsman scoring a century against Mumbai Indians on Friday to seal the top spot on the top-scorer chart, overtaking Royal Challengers Bengaluru batsman Faf Du Plessis. The highest scorer over the course of the season is awarded the Orange cap at the end of the tournament.

On the other end, Gujarat Titans’ bowlers occupy the top three spots on the bowling charts. Mohammed Shami (28 wickets), Rashid Khan (27 wickets) and Mohit Sharma (24 wickets) are in the running for the Purple cap. With Gujarat booking their place in the final, any one of these bowlers could snap up the award.

Gill smashed 129 runs off of just 60 balls to break past the 800-run mark, while also marking his third century in this year’s tournament. The batsman from Punjab has scored 851 runs, so far and could add to that tally in Sunday’s final game against Chennai Super Kings.

With none of Chennai’s batsmen or bowlers close to the top spots on the charts, the Titans’ players are set to grab the individual honours this year.

Players winning the Purple and Orange caps get a Rs 15 lakh cash prize, each, in addition to the cap.

In 2022, the Orange cap was snapped up by Jos Buttler, who scored 863 runs for Rajasthan Royals, while the Purple cap went to Yuzvendra Chahal, who took 27 wickets, also for Rajasthan.
