We just have a few weeks to go before Apple introduces the much-awaited operating system update, the
iOS 17. While several reports suggest that Apple has no plans to release many features and upgrades with the upcoming iOS update, a report suggests that the Cupertino-based tech giant will be adding in elements to enable the side-loading of apps on iPhones.
At the Worldwide Developers Conference 2023, Apple will be introducing updates to its main operating systems. The iPhone-maker will be unveiling the iOS 17 alongside iPadOS 17, macOs 14 and watchOS 10 update, a report by Bloomberg‘s Mark Gurman said.
However, all eyes are specifically on the iOS 17, as the previous update, the iOS 16, brought several exciting features such as Lock Screen, Focus, Passkeys, Live Text, Shared Photo Library & more.
But going by latest speculations, Apple’s iOS 17 will be more centric towards regulatory compliance than bringing new features.
According to Gurman, Apple doesn’t have major new features planned to launch along with iOS 17, but the tech company does plan on addressing a checklist of user requests with more minor improvements.

Gurman suggests that what Apple has in store for the audience in regards to the iOS 17, will make “more noise beyond WWDC itself” as the company will finally enable sideloading with the upcoming operating system.
What Is Sideloading?
Sideloading will be a huge step by Apple as it means allowing users to download/install applications on the iPhone by other means than the company’s official platform, the App Store.
With this, users can easily transfer apps onto the device through connected computer which were downloaded and installed separately or were acquired using a third-party store.
It’ll be interesting to see how Apple introduces and implements this as the tech giant has fought against this in the past and declared jailbreaking and alternative app stores to be a security threat for the device and its users.
