‘Naatu Naatu’ the superhit track from SS Rajamouli’s magnum opus RRR just won an Oscar for Best Original Song and the Indians on the internet can’t stop going gaga about it. While MM Keeravani’s tune, the lyrics by Chandrabose and the vocals by Rahul Sipligunj and Kaala Bhairava do deserve a standing ovation, nobody can deny the fact that it was Rajamouli’s pioneering vision and, Jr NTR-Ram Charan’s class act onscreen that made the song a cult. The trio – Jr NTR, Ram Charan and SS Rajamouli were at the Oscar 2023 ceremony and won the internet with their beautiful tribute to India with their garments. Here’s a look at what they wore to the champagne carpet.
Jr NTR donned a regal-looking black velvet bandhgala with trousers by ace designer Gaurav Gupta. The bandhgala featured an interesting
embellished tiger motif inspired by India’s national animal, Tiger. “Tiger is the national animal of India. I brought that along with me when I wore this outfit,” NTR said at the Oscars 2023. Interestingly, the embellishment looks similar to the panther wing that was etched on actor Shahid Kapoor’s tuxedo, which he wore recently for an award show.

Ram Charan too opted for a bandhgala. His black three-piece bandhgala by Shantnu and Nikhil was a tribute to his Indian roots and a homage to the Indian freedom fighters in the form of a badge with buttons.
Both the actors wore Indian surma (or kohl) in their eyes and looked handsome as usual.

The lead man of the pack, SS Rajamouli, who helmed RRR to perfection sported his signature kurta and dhoti look at the Oscars.

Also spotted on the champagne carpet was Ram Charan’s beautiful wife, Upasana Konidela, who opted for an ivory sari designed by designer Jayanti Reddy. The sari was made using hand woven silk, of spun fabric, created from recycled scraps. She accessorised the look with a handmade potli made from scraps again, that complemented her silk sari perfectly and a Lilium neck piece that was intricately crafted and was in making from the last four years. The exquisite Lilium piece worn by Upasana belonged to a series of life-size flowers designed by an avant-garde Mumbai-based jewellery designer, Bina Goenka. It was maneuvered with impeccable craftsmanship, made using the highest quality of natural gemstones of pearls and approximately 400 carats of high-quality.
