Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge on Wednesday targeted Prime Minister Narendra Modi by saying Indian democracy will not tolerate ‘arrogance of a leader’ who boasts that it is a fight between him alone on the one side and the rest of the opposition on the other.

Addressing the INTUC plenary session here, Kharge referred to Modi’s recent speech in the Lok Sabha.”The Prime Minister said he alone is facing the rest of the opposition. Democracy won’t tolerate such arrogance. I want to ask him how can you (PM) claim to be all alone?. The BJP is with you, the RSS is with you. It’s a different thing that those who built up the BJP and you have been sidelined.” Kharge accused the PM of averting any dialogue on the real issues and policies and instead indulging in personal attacks against Opposition leaders, especially the Gandhis.

“Why is he all the time indulging in making personal attacks on Soniaji and Rahul ji!. They didn’t hold the post of the PM or ministers. Yet, he is always attacking Sonia ji and Rahul ji with a calculation that by tarnishing their image, the Congress can be weakened.”

Maintaining that the Congress, along with other opposition parties, will come to power after the 2024 election, Kharge said the fight is to save democracy.
