Jio 5G rolling out: List of cities, how to activate, 5G plans and everything else you should know

Reliance Jio 5G network is now available in 192 Indian cities across 29 States and UT. Jio users living in these cities can connect to the new network after receiving the Jio Welcome offer.

By Divya Bhati: Reliance Jio is currently on an aim to deploy its 5G network across PAN India by the end of 2023. Launched in October 2022, Jio True 5G has reached nearly 200 cities across India within 4 months of the launch. Following the commitment, the telco will cover more cities in the coming days.

In the recent deployment, Jio announced its 5G services in 7 cities across 6 States- Arunachal Pradesh (Itanagar), Manipur (Imphal), Meghalaya (Shillong), Mizoram (Aizawl), Nagaland (Kohima and Dimapur), and Tripura (Agartala). Jio users who have received the Jio Welcome offer can connect to the faster fifth-generation network. With this, the Jio 5G network is currently live in 192 cities across 29 States and Union territories.

Here is the full list of all the States and UT where Jio 5G is available.

How to Activate Jio 5G

To activate Jio 5G make sure you have received a Jio Welcome invite and are using a 5G-enabled smartphone. Additionally, make sure you have downloaded the latest system update, which includes support for Jio 5G. To download the system update go to your phone’s Settings> About Phone> System Update and tap on download latest update.

Activate Jio 5G on an Android phone-

  • Go to the phone’s settings.
  • Tap on “Mobile network”.
  • Choose Jio SIM and then tap on the ‘Preferred network type’ option.
  • Now select 5G.

Activate Jio 5G on iPhone-

  • Open Settings section
  • Then select “Mobile Data”
  • Now go to “Voice and Data”
  • Select “5G AUTO” as well as “5G Standalone On” to connect to Jio 5G.

Jio 5G Welcome offer

Jio is offering 5G on an invitational basis. So not everyone will be able to use the Jio True 5G. Users who have received the Jio Welcome Offer are only eligible to use the new and faster network connectivity.

Under the Jio Welcome Offer, the telco is offering unlimited 5G data along with your active recharge plans. However, the unlimited 5G data will only work as long as you have a valid active base plan of Rs 239 or higher.

Notably, The 5G network will automatically connect with your existing 4G SIM. So you don’t have to buy a new 5G SIM.

How to get Jio Welcome offer

You can check for the Jio Welcome offer on the My Jio app. Jio will also send Welcome invite notification via SMS or through WhatsApp message.

Jio 5G plans

To get Jio 5G make sure you have an active recharge plan of Rs 239 or higher. For users who don’t have an active plan of Rs 239, Jio has a dedicated add-on prepaid plan of Rs 61. Jio users can recharge with Rs 61 prepaid pack to access the latest network in 5G-compatible cities. The plan also includes 6GB of data.
